Finite element analysis and simulation of a piezoelectric component used in a thermal sensor
Currently, companies working in the aerospace industry face various challenges regarding the use of space satellites. Such satellites come to face a potential threat due to the large flow of heat and which causes a considerable increase in temperature as a result of the satellite's exposure to heat caused by space radiation. To try to solve this problem it is necessary to use specialized computer programs which are capable of solving problems through the finite element method.
This method according to Fernández (2015) “is based on the ability to solve problems through differential equations and/or integral expressions in conventional numerical methods.” For this type of method, a type of model is used which is known as a “mesh” which is composed of a certain number of elements. These elements, in turn, are made up of points which are called “nodes” and it is here where the various mathematical equations are solved, the different physical loads and the conditions to which the component is subject are applied. According to Frías (2004) “The Finite Element Method is based on transforming a body of continuous nature into an approximate discrete model, this transformation is called discretization of the model.”
This article presents an analysis carried out using finite element software (Comsol), developing a component of the satellite thermal sensor. To carry out this analysis it is important to mention that the sensor uses a bar that is composed of two metal bars and a piezoelectric element, in the latter an analysis will be carried out with different materials to find the most suitable material so that the sensor does not suffer greater deformation when subjected to high temperatures.

The magazine Applied Research, a Focus on Technology is a periodic, indexed and peer-reviewed publication which main purpose is to disseminate the scientific work of researchers, for this reason, the published articles are related to the work and application of Research, in general and with the derivations of engineering that are developed in the field of research, in particular.
